Wow. Had no idea he went to the Institute. Guess I would've learned that had I gone to the screenings. One of the screenings was at the Siskel Center. So far, I've only seen one film there: Sunrise. This year has brought many new welcome introductions to my life and I've had much to be grateful for...

Well, now don't I feel unworthy? I had maybe three opportunities to see Tropical Malady in Chicago and I missed them all. And The Company has been out on DVD for months now without my patronship. Geez, at least I have an excuse for the latest Tsai.

Ah, Beauty and the Beast! Brings a tear t'me eye!

Subsequent viewings (and one of the Cocteau film) haven't quite held up as I'd like but it's a glorious film that makes you forget how much you hate Disney. Stands above its competition in '91. Menken and Ashman were quite a team.

His detractors would say he never had a knack for writing interesting characters, that they're either throwbacks to silent film martyrs like Lillian Gish or his own masochistic projections. I certainly don't think his best talents lie in character development. Then again, he puzzles me as a directo...

I really wish I could do a better job defending the film because I haven't seen it in so long, but I can say this without fear of retraction: the film is a technical triumph. I've worked with digital video quite a few times and the look of it is very different from film (Hey, look! It's Captain Duh...

Downer is one way to describe it. The best way I can describe it is it's a Lars von Trier film, which means it's a three-plus hour anti-American polemic. I want to see it again, but when I sa it ten months ago I really liked it.

My previous entry now has an unreadable font. Besides, my tastes have changed in the past year a bit. Here's where I stand as of now and I can't help but think that it indicates the amount of growth I have yet to do when none of my picks is in a different language. 1. Rushmore (directed by Wes Ande...

Here's mine, with viewings of Finding Neverland and The Ladykillers taken into account. On further reflection--although I still dislike the thing very much--Finding Neverland isn't quite as bad as I thought, more of a very, very VERY low two star film like The Hours. Also, I really have no idea how...

Let me just preface this by saying that yes, just about every film on this list is American. I'm sorry. I'm trying to remedy this problem by seeing as many foreign films of the nineties as I can but right now, these are the ones that I love the most dammit! 1. Rushmore (Wes Anderson) 2. The Thin Red...

Diane Keaton. Is it wrong to kinda want to see the former Annie Hall naked in Something's Gotta Give this winter?

Haven't seen half the winners on the list but I liked Redgrave quite a bit in Julia.

What a crappy lineup! I'll go with Jack for such a broadly Oscar-baiting role rather than Art, if only because Jack should be the winner irregardless for Chinatown. Couldn't care less about Dreyfuss or half the winners on there.

Dammit! I really wanted to say Annie Hall but I'm a sucker for The Godfather. Still can't believe the Woodman beat Lucas and didn't even show up to collect the spoils. What a year!
