Zero Mostel was great in "The Front!" I had forgotten about him and that film.

Same here, Penelope. I love Guthrie and - Coming Home aside, which I saw ten years ago and probably need to see again - I've liked every Ashby film I've seen. I can't find Bound for Glory anywhere.

Just saw The Blue Angel. Brilliant, just perfect. The frame is filled with wonderful details, shadows, and Von Sternberg...well, you all must be familiar with his workings by now but this is my first of his films and I saw it on the big screen. Dietrich is wonderful, I loved the older actress who d...

First off, I always look forward to your year-end round-ups. I never fail to find one or two performances that I've totally overlooked during the year (especially Mean Girls' Amanda Seyfried). I gotta take you to task for something, man. Not Jon Lovitz. That's fine. Hated the film, but whatever. So...

Constantine--** ...suppose I should be grateful that it's not as stuff like Van Helsing (and I should add that the jackass behind me talked for the entire film and one of the speakers was shot) but it's pretty monotonous stuff. The visuals are great, unless they're horrible (one shot of dying cows ...

Son Frere! I forgot about Son Frere! Gawddammit, I've been meaning to see that for months now. Well, that's another one for the list. Sheesh... I'm typing this from the library. I'll get some more winners in later. BEST PICTURE [/u] 1. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 2. Before Sunset 3. Bad E...

I just watched "The Philadelphia Story" for the first time in years. It does not disappoint. The entire cast is perfectly in synch except for Mr. Stewart at certain times; I think it's that he and his girl friday look just a little too overdressed (aren't these two supposed to be contempt...

A year ago, I borrowed a friends "Best of Gondry" video. Not only are his music videos just brilliant, but his student film is adorable and he's a charming, self-effacing guy as well. Thoroughly enjoyable. Different strokes though, I guess. I've bumped "Birth" up a little bit. I...

Re: Birth. After the credits, I looked behind me and saw maybe seven people in the theater besides me, none of them happy at what they had seen in the least. I think a few immediately walked into "House of Flying Daggers" afterwards. The theater is absolutely the place to see this film. T...

How great was 1946? No room for Cary Grant on your Best Actor list, that's how great.

Seriously though: you're gonna have to post these for every year, Damien. For. Every. Year.

Wow. Had no idea he went to the Institute. Guess I would've learned that had I gone to the screenings. One of the screenings was at the Siskel Center. So far, I've only seen one film there: Sunrise. This year has brought many new welcome introductions to my life and I've had much to be grateful for...
