By the way, isn't the Jai Ho case another example of how this branch bend the rules. No matter how I rooted for it to win even before the nominations, I think I read somewhere that it wasn't composed for the film. Instead, It was originally written for the film Yuwraaj but its producer rejected it....

FYI: the Santaolalla piece was an original composition, previously performed and recorded, before it was ever utilized for movie scores. I know, Iguazu. I love the piece and can listen to it any time of the day and get all kinds of dramatic inspiration, but I just hate how the music branch plays st...

Well, it wouldn't be a year at the Oscars without the Academy's music branch doing something to take out a top contender/change the rules/show their ineptitude each year. Not that I considered The Kids Are All Right or The Fighter top contenders for Best Score, but Black Swan AND True Grit? Now I'l...

I have to ask, when was the last time a movie won more than three awards from the NBR? *edit* It looks like it was back in the 80s when Mississippi Burning, A Passage to India and Terms of Endearment all won four awards. Of course, there were fewer categories back then (including no category for Sc...

I loved Nielsen's sense of humor in all of his movies, even all three Naked Gun movies (yes, all three). It's a shame there weren't more mainstream vehicles recently that could take full advantage of his style of humor outside of Scary Movie 3 and 4. And, of course, Airplane, which will always be o...

You know, this is one of the few celebrities that I've had the pleasure of meeting in real life and let me tell you, he is a very kind, very nice guy who goes out of his way to talk to anyone who wants to talk to him on a personal level. He's a genuinely nice guy, he's had a great career and I'm gl...

Okay, because I'm always curious as to how this is going to look before they announce the contenders, I've gone through the current releases as well as any songs that have been announced. So, of course, this list isn't complete, but it's what I've compiled as to songs that were originally written (...
