I suppose I'm over-reacting. I did look up some of the more obscure titles on the imdb. and can't a sense of whether they're any good or not. For example, Three Russian Girls doesn't even have a description. But the thing is these films are going to be eliminated if no one preserves them anyway. It...

Looks like people are replacing well known nominees in the tech categories that they may have seen with other well known nominees and leaving the crap that nobody alive ever heard of behind.

Thanks for leaving the supporting categories open for our fill-ins. :O Good luck with that. I was really struggling to find/remember worthy nominees in the supporting categories, as i have seen all these films a long time ago. In additon to the two Louises who have already been named in supporting ...

I don't understand why would remake any musical. They're expensive to make and the audiences for them are small. Those of us that love them have the originals in our collections, but yes, make the ones that haven't been produced or come up with something entirely new.

If there was anything I've learned from playing, it's to preserve my favorites (or preserve the ones left, if my turn comes late in the round) on the first turn, because I won't be able to rescue them all later. Oh, yeah. I like all of the 1944 nominees but there are several non-nominated films I l...

All right, dws, it's your turn. 1 pick from Group 1 3 picks from Group 2 (during turn one only; you make two selections in the music categories, one in the others; after turn one, you have two selections from Group 2, one in music) 1 pick from Group 3 Rudeboy, this is for all of us, not just DWS. Y...

Well, that didn't last long. I took it away from Streisand and gave it back to Woodward. Even though the film hasn't aged well, it was a very brave role for Woodward to play following an equally brave performance in The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds the year before. Call the tem...

The imdb. shows 1776 as in development for 2009. Is this another musical remake or something else? I guess if they can revive the same musicals year after year on Broadway they can remake them for the screen as well, but I can't imagine My Fair Lady being improved upon. What good would location sho...

Be sure to check release dates before duplicating the other 1934 game. Queen Christina and Flying Down to Rio are ineligible, they were 1933 releases in New York.

L'Atalante and Hitchcock's original version of The Man Who Knew Too Much are among the foreign film releases that do qualify here.

For festival films only, right? 2003 is going to be a pretty bleak year for this game without eliminating In America. City of God, Dirty Pretty Thiings and The Magdalene Sisters are all ineligible having had their first theatrical showings in their coutnries of origin (Brazil, Great Britian, Irelan...

I agree with your criteria, but what about films that only had festival showings? Should we consider them ineligible in any year?

I just finished watching The Visit. I don't recall having seen the film before, but it seemed very familiar to me. Perhaps I read the play years ago. I pretty much agree with Italiano's assessment of the casting. The mix does allow for an "everywhere" kind of town but if that was the inte...

I need to clarify something if we are indeed going to 2003 or any year for that matter in which a film was shown at a film festival in one year and released theatrically the next. Do we consider teh film festival date or the date of first tehatrical showing? In America, my favorite film first relea...
