Thanks, Damien! I love me some Fay Bainter and boy, am I a total sap when it comes to White Banners. Sentimental as all get-out and crying like a baby. Same deal with To Each His Own.

James Cromwell didn't do anything award-worthy in The Queen. If anyone gets swept along the Mirren tide, it should be Sheen whose Tony Blair is pitch-perfect.

I still loved it when Tom Wolfe won a couple years ago for I Am Charlotte Simmons, a book I enjoyed for being very on-target in its description of the state of expensive liberal arts colleges in the 00's. I graduated from Middlebury in 2001 (a.k.a. Clud Midd) and almost felt I was reading our viewb...

ATWT needs a new hunk (or two: ex-DAYS actor Austin Peck is joining ATWT as Jack's brother Brad Snyder). Be careful what you wish for, Penelope. Austin Peck represents the nadir of soap opera acting. He's so bad he transcends the very concept of bad acting, discovering new subterranean, previously-...

Is this your first time watching a soap opera? They're filled with very "obviously-gay" actors trying to sell themselves as straight men in romantic roles. It's a staple of the genre.

Some great modern recordings are The Frogs (a must for a Sondheim fan), Honk!, The Full Monty, Ragtime, Urinetown. Man of No Importance. I downloaded a couple Ragtime songs onto my iPod this week and I've really been enjoying them (especially, "Prologue: Ragtime"). Audra McDonald has a fa...

Happy Birthday, Penelope! I always look forward to your wonderful posts. Have an excellent day and I second the Kate Winslet nod! She's effortlessly brilliant in Little Children.

Shareeka Epps in the lead actress category. What else could she have been nominated for? It was a lead role. I don't presume to speak for him but I don’t think Magilla is arguing with her category placement. He was only saying that because it was a juvenile performance, everyone had been expecting ...

Actually, Sonic, she was nominated in the lead category.

I am very psyched that she's been recognized. Go Marilyn Hack!

Go Daniel Craig! He was one of the best things about Infamous. The Ryan Gosling love starts here. And nice to see Shareeka Epps' performance cited alongside him. I loved Mary Beth Hurt's performances in Interiors and The World According to Garp so her awards recognition is always welcome. American ...

I don't condone racism and I think that Michael Richards' comments are deplorable, but is it just me or is there a double standard at work here? I'd like to see someone complain about Chris Rock's or Dave Chappelle's liberal use of the word "cracker" in reference to white people. Or is it...
