A huge and growing problem with the polls is that the pollsters contact potential voters only on land-line numbers. Apparently there is no technology to use automatic dialers with cell phones. Younger folks in particular are trending toward having only cell phones, and of course this demographic st...

Did they really make them all sing that Jesus song at the top of the show? Watching this show is usually just a guilty pleasure, but tonight I feel totally creeped out. Get me to rehab fast!

I don't think Clinton is unelectable, just less electable. If she were a much better candidate than Obama, I might be willing to take that chance. But she's not. She's far too hawkish and pro-corporate. And, whether it's her fault or not, she's divisive. This country needs some serious healing righ...

An unapologetic vote for Obama here in California. Voting for him is a bit of a risk, because we don't really know him. His speeches may be "vacuous," to use OscarGuy's word, but I don't think Barack is vacuous at all. I think his strategy is to play it safe by not saying much, and it app...

I guess they really hated Sweeney Todd. It didn't even get a nomination for Production Design.

Edit: Oops, I see that you already mentioned that, OG

But thank God they didn't give more than one solo to that girl who played Johanna. Her voice--as annoying as the sound of a fork sliding across a porcelain plate--brings a new definition to the word shrill. I concur. I had the thought that perhaps Judge Turpin was doing the world a favor by sequest...

Zahveed, I "enjoyed" it, at least in parts. I guess I wasn't enjoying myself while cringing whenever Helena Bonham Carter sang, however. The music is still glorious, even if it is truncated and not sung anywhere near its potential. This is a work that could have been so much more, as it w...

I haven't seen enough of these to place a vote. It's difficult to imagine, though, that any of these are better than Grand Illusion, a truly great work of art.

They can't work for the Times and be for Kucinich (in print, anyway) because the New York Times is overly invested in staying in the mainstream. It's a left-of-center--for this country--mainstream, but mainstream nonetheless.

I agree, Kaytodd about the wonderful casting in this movie. I disagree, though, about the actress who played the mother. She was a weak link (albeit a small one, since it was a small, non-essential part) in the movie for me, stood out as too much of a caricature.

I totally agree, Penelope. Waitress is a slight but enjoyable film, mostly thanks to Keri Russell. She is a revelation in this, and should be generating more awards buzz.

Have you guys noticed that arch-enemy Giuliani is tumbling in the polls? This would be fortuitous news except that he is being overtaken by the even more heinous Huckabee (you know, the compassionate guy who wants to round up all HIV+ folks and put them in concentration camps). Twit Romney is withi...
