Re: Last Seen Movie - The Latest Movie You Have Seen; ratings

Werckmeister Harmonies (2000) - 6.5/10 - The film is shot fairly well and I liked the theme music and a few of the scenes, but overall I slightly prefer Satantango even though it is nearly three times the length of this film. She Said (2022) - 7/10 - This film tells the tale of the New York Times i...

The Northman (2022) - 6/10 - A young prince sees his father murdered by his uncle. The boy flees and years later returns as an adult for his vengeance. The film is well made, but I didn't really enjoy it that much. Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013) - 7/10 - A young woman named Adèle is a high school...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Supporting Actor

Quan will probably win, but Keoghan would be my choice out of the five. I certainly liked Keoghan's performance more than that of Gleeson. Brian Tyree Henry was very good in Causeway, but you're right that it probably wasn't widely seen and feels like a minor film, though I thought it was pretty goo...

Re: Last Seen Movie - The Latest Movie You Have Seen; ratings

Argentina, 1985 (2022) - 8/10 - The Trial of the Juntas in Argentina is dramatized here, focusing on the lead prosecutor, Julio Strassera, his family, and those who worked with him during the trial. It's pretty well acted. Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (2022) - 8/10 - This version is set in fascis...

Re: Categories One-by-One: International Film

My personal preferences: 1. All Quiet on the Western Front (Germany) 2. The Quiet Girl (Ireland) 3. Argentina, 1985 (Argentina) 4. Close (Belgium) 5. EO (Poland) It wouldn't bother me if The Quiet Girl pulled off the upset. I have it only slightly behind All Quiet on the Western Front. Close and EO ...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Live-Action Short

I would rank them as follows:

1. The Red Suitcase
2. An Irish Goodbye
3. Le Pupille
4. Night Ride
5. Ivalu

The Red Suitcase was my favorite by far with An Irish Goodbye a distant second, a cut above the next two.

Re: Unseen 2022 Oscar Nominated Films

I'm down to 5 unseen nominees now. I'm planning to watch Argentina, 1985 on Prime tomorrow as well as Pinocchio on Netflix. After that, I'll have to wait for Women Talking, The Whale, and Living to hit VOD. That may happen by the end of the month since Women Talking is scheduled to come out on BD/dv...

The Quiet Girl (2022) - 8/10 - A shy and withdrawn girl who doesn't get much attention at home is sent away to live with her mother's cousin during the summer until the girl's pregnant mother gives birth. During the summer, the girl finds the attention and affection that she had been missing. It's ...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Documentary Short

I thought this category was a lot better than the animated category this year. None of them were exceptional, but all were at least decent. Here's how I would rank them based on personal preference. Rankings 1. The Elephant Whisperers 2. The Martha Mitchell Effect 3. How Do You Measure a Year? 4. St...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Animated Short

I think that this is a pretty weak lineup this year. There weren't any that I really liked a lot, though the only one I really disliked was The Flying Sailor. I expected to like The Boy The Mole, The Fox and The Horse, but I found it to be pretty slow and not all that interesting. My preferences 01....

Re: Last Seen Movie - The Latest Movie You Have Seen; ratings

Summer Time Machine Blues (2005) - 7.5/10 - The members of a scifi club are unhappy when the remote for their air conditioner stops working and they may be forced to spend the sweltering summer without the benefit of cooler air. Then a time machine appears and they concoct a plan to use it to retri...
