The list has been updated post-Feb. 25, with The Departed inserted at No. 30, and other various other tweakings amid the rankings. It's still the most arbitrary ranking I've ever seen. We could all go on and on--Marty at 6, It Happened One Night at 23? It's obviously a flawed formula they used.

I challenge any depiction of Driving Miss Daisy as a bad film. It's sweet, poignant and relevant. It features top-notch performances and is well paced. I'm sure Driving Miss Daisy would be remembered as all the things you say--if it hadn't won the Academy Award for Best Picture, and especially not ...

The problem with this is that it lets the Academy off the hook for the many years when it made absolutely abomonable nominations: Thus Driving Miss Daisy is one of the worst BPs, but it's almost good in comparison to Dead Poets Society. American Beauty is not as unwatchable as Cider House Rules. Ev...

Haven't we learned that we can never call BP until that last envelope is opened?

They've always been suckers for rock stars--Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Springsteen. Look at this as in that line.

Well, folks, the Dreamgirls meltdown that began Oscar morning is now complete.

I was hoping for #2 for Randy Newman

Pan's Labyrinth really did deserve this. When was the last time a composer won two years in a row? Mancini in '61 and '62 is the last I can think of, and one of those years was for song.

Clint has to be reading Morricone's translation off a teleprompter. He does not know Italian, unless he learned it since the Leone films.

A fine actor winning for an embarrassing role. Anybody still think Norbit didn't make a difference?

Tee, What a brilliant, elegant piece. I don't think we're in 1952, because the end-of-the-studio era panic started to resolve itself the following year and stayed that way as Hollywood through the fifties found its way in the new entertainment business as it began to shape up. (In fact, we're now i...

I think the ubiquity of the LMS DVD, released over the holidays in the US, was part of the film's campaign. Similarly, the renewed attention to The Departed, in reviews and great sales in the week before ballots were due might have been smart strategy, especially for a movie some were saying peaked...

Do any of you give any credence to the report by Nikki Finke of a super-secret plan (though not anymore) for a troika of Francis Coppola, George Lucas, and Steven Spielberg to hand out best director? If Scorsese wins, this would be the movie brat reunion for the ages. This would be the photo on eve...

Since bringing up 1985 earlier this morning, I'm haunted by it. Come to think of it, the Steven Spielberg snub--and the unprecedented "Snub this, Academy!" choice by the DGA to give it to him anyway--resulted in Oscar predictions as unsettled as this year's. After the Oscars, I figured th...
