Re: Trivia

First time ever that 3 out of the 4 acting winners are of African origin (Rami Malek is of Egyptian origin though he is not black)?

The Guardian has also hailed Rami Malek as the first Best Actor winner of Arab heritage.

Ang Lee has won not one but two directing Oscars - Brokeback Mountain and The Life of Pi.

Re: Trivia

So this is the end of the 9th decade of Academy Awards. Had been wondering whether the average numbers of awards won by individual best pictures across the decade is the lowest among all 9 decades (thanks to the preferential ballots). The statistics: (From lowest to highest) 1. 1st decade: 2.4 2. 9t...

Re: Trivia

HI All, Have not been posting for quite a while due to heavy work commitments. Just to contribute one trivia which I've taken note for quite a while :- Venice Film Festival has become the last of the three top film festivals in the world that has given its top award (Golden Lion) to a future Oscar ...

Re: Trivia

Is this the first time ever in the history of Academy Awards that the Best Picture winners in two consecutive years have at least one African American (or non-white) acting nominee (or winner) respectively?

I did read yours but I was talking about an overall impression (after reading the rest of the prediction articles). Of course I didn't do a scientific statistical analysis to confirm this.

Re: 89th Oscars: Best Picture

Ok ... before the ceremony night, I suppose more than 95% of speculations would be that IF an upset in this category were happened, the winner must be MANCHESTER BY THE SEA. I bet very few people would consider MOONLIGHT the alternative - at most at a distant third place. Seriously? In the circles ...

But this is probably the first time ever that we have two brothers winning Oscars in two different categories and in two different years.

Re: Trivia

I read from somewhere that Casey brothers have become the first male sibling pairs who won Oscars. Can anybody verify this?

We know there is at least one female sibling pair who achieved the same feat - Joan Fontaine and Olivia de Havilland.

Re: Trivia

This may be no big deal on this board but it is quite a big thing in Singapore media - Singaporean Ai-Ling Lee who leads LA LA LAND's sound team is nominated for both Sound Editing and Sound Mixing. If I am not wrong, she is the first Singaporean Academy Award nominee ... well, she failed to become ...

This year, LLL becomes the first movie which won both Best Director and Best Actress but missed Best Picture. Still, the combinations of director+actress+pictur...

Re: 89th Oscars: General & Ceremony Discussion

It seemed like its big win at the Indie Spirits yesterday was simply due to La La Land's lack of eligibility. And it's not like it picked up any unexpected prizes early in the Oscar evening, like Cinematography or Editing, to tip us off. Given that Moonlight could even beat LLL at the Oscar arena, ...

Re: 89th Oscars: Best Picture

4 out of 5 Picture/Director split now...I'm sure it goes without saying...there has never been any kind of 80% streak before in history, correct? That was some crazy crazy shit...my brother texted me immediately and his main comment was how happily and proudly Warren threw Faye hard and intently un...
