The reception for his newest was incredibly weak as well.

No, it wasn't.

I'll be honest, I didn't at New Regency. I have read some good scripts since. Most of them were quite bad. There was a script for an epic called SAIGON as in FALL OF THE. And it was hard to say because it was such a big, clearly-researched piece of work. It was better than the rest, which is why I ...

Armond White counters "Preciousmania" with The Blind Side. I read The Blind Side when I was a reader at New Regency two years ago. It sucks. That being said, it can't not be better than Precious. This notion of though of "Sandra Bullock cinema" is something I don't subscribe to....

Recount (Roach) - 4/10 Big missed opportunity but works as a nostalgia piece. Roach is clearly the wrong man to helm this thing. You can tell he has the wrong sensibility for the film whenever an (O.S.) voice of Gore, Bush, or Lieberman is heard. The emotional timbre of the 2000 Election boiled dow...

I agree with this. I, for one, wasn't watching Precious strolling on down the street with a gleam in her eye at the end of the film as some sort of triumph. Sure, she was finally getting away from that monster of a mother, but with two children in tow, a raging case of illiteracy, little money and ...

No, because I don't think it's a very good joke. This reviewer brings up a very good point about the tonal disaster that is the entire movie. Sidenote: I think that where Lee Daniels decides to end the film, Lars von Trier would opt to begin it. Say what you will about von Trier but the real movie ...

There should be a club: BLACK PEOPLE WHO FUCKING HATE PRECIOUS. Some SPOILERS. A film as lost as the girl it glorifies By Courtland Milloy Wednesday, November 18, 2009 Now that I have seen the movie "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire," I'm all the more bewildered by its enth...

/The Brothers Bloom/ (Rian Johnson) 8.5/10 Watching the deleted scenes on the DVD confirms to me that much of the third act was edited out for streamlining resulting in discord. Also, The Brothers Bloom becomes the kind of con film where the con is a more symbolic thing rather than having any true ...

Well, she needs to work her fat ass out. Leave me alone. I'm still right. FROM MIKE D'ANGELO Precious ('09 Daniels): 18. Reluctantly, I will admit that Mo'Nique home-runs her big monologue. But it's still part of a garish freak show. @jerocrowe TRASH HUMPERS got a 2. CRASH an 11. I think SOUTHLAND ...

So maybe you guys did get that Daniels was trying to portray dissociation, but I was thrown off when Sabin referred to Daniels "deflating tension with comedy"

I was referring to Mo'Nique working out in front of the television. Not a fantasy sequence.

Bronson The best film of Guy Ritchie's career that he will never do. I saw Pusher and this couldn't be farther from the realism established there. This is essentially a live action cartoon about a total sociopath who must fight to feel anything. It's ultimately a little tedious but a dazzling achie...

Last Orders (Schepisi) - 8/10 Lovely evocation of life, death, and memory through Irish laughter. Could've used a stronger visual stylist. Schepisi excels at flashbacks and unity in joyous performance but the film to me is slightly lacking in pause. Hard to knock it though. It's a resonating, lovel...
