Up in the Air The reason that I think Up in the Air is going to win Best Picture is because Slumdog Millionaire last year, it has become more than the movie that it is. Very much so. It's worth noting that Jason Reitman opted for pathos instead of using those laid off as a source of humor. This was...

Just a little interesting look back of how many Best Picture nominees rank into his top ten list. 2008 - 3BPs 2007 - 3BPs 2006 - 5BPs 2005 - 5BPs 2004 - 4BPs 2003 - 4BPs 2002 - 3BPs 2001 - (should be excluded for doing a Top20) - 5BPs 2000 - 3BPs Man, if there were only FIVE Best Picture nominees t...

/The New World/ (Terrence Malick) - 7/10 The least of his films by far. I just watched the 3 Hour-ish extended cut and it suffers from painful familiarity that does not plague his other films. It's a gorgeous experience but I just don't think the John Smith/Pocahontas story can be interestingly don...

Best Film - Up in the Air (total crap-shoot. Could just as easily opt for An Education or The Last Station, both of which looks NBR-innocuous to me) (r.u. -- The Last Station) ...An Education ...The Hurt Locker ...Inglourious Basterds ...Invictus ...The Last Station ...Nine ...Precious ...A Serious...

Best Original Song - "God Help the Outcast" - The Hunchback of Notre Dame ...or another Hunchback fan. I was a huge Hunchback fan when it came out. I've since cooled because it's an incredibly uneven film teetering between rather astonishing drama and goofy kid shit. I prefer it to pretty...

I happen to like Treasure Planet. It was a strong adventure film and decently entertaining. More so than that codswallop Home on the Range...

I remember liking Treasure Planet too. It's entertaining and a step up from Atlantis. But it's pretty difficult to get terribly worked up about it.

Preserve Spirited Away. This was a pretty lame year for Animated Features. I like Lilo & Stitch enough but is there anything that I'm not seeing that warrants a nod here?

LATE MINUTE NOTE - thanks, rain bard.

It's a little disappointing to see Nicolas Cage ousted while Jack Nicholson remains. But Brody and Caine deserve their spots, while Scott and Grant are excellent choices.
