Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams (1973) - Gilbert Cates

4/10

Small independent film with a dated direction by Gil Cates, only worth watching for Joanne Woordward and Sylvia Sidney's performances.

McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971) - Robert Altman

9/10

Brilliantly shot movie with a tremendous direction by Robert Altman. Although Julie Christie is good, the real standout, once again, is Warren Beatty. Vilmos Szgimond was ROBBED of a nomination.

Another masterpiece from 1971

Carnal Knowledge (1971) - Mike Nichols

8/10

Great film with a tremendous performance by Jack Nicholson, who really is the stand-out here. Another slick direction by Mike Nichols with a subject matter common to his other films.

1971 is fastly becoming one of my favourite years

American Graffiti (1973) - George Lucas

8/10

Lucas's most personal film is indeed a very good one with a charming screenplay and greatly acted by everyone. Cindy Williams should have received a nomination instead of Candy Clak IMO. The editing of the film is also top notch.

Why?

IMO because there is no film truly deserving of oscar recognition apart from probably Terms of Endearment and Tender Mercies

The Dresser (1983) - Peter Yates 6.5/10 Top class acting by Albert Finney and Tom Courtenay, although at times it feels that they are a bit overacting (specially Courtenay's last scene). The script is also very well written. This is another proof that Albert Finney is way due for an oscar. 1983 rea...

A great lineup of film scores, all fully deserving of the nomination.

My choice goes to Philip Glass for The Hours

rudeboy, take Original Score 1988

Murphy's Romance (1985) - Martin Ritt

6/10

Interesting little film with fine performances by Sally Field and James Garner, who clearly received a nomination honoring his career for this film.

By the way, Sally Filed really looked hot during the 80's.

Sorry guys but I really didn't like it. I'm not that into highly depressing movies about doomsday.

Jane Alexander is not bad, I must admit.

Testament (1983) - Lynne Litman

1/10

Dreadfull film about nuclear disaster that is a pain to sit trough. How can a director dedicate a film like this to her familiy is something that I consider dispecable.

Please avoid this at all cost if you haven't seen it.

The Paper Chase (1973) - James Bridges 6.5/10 I found this film very entertaining with a very charismatic performance by John Houseman, who I think really deserved the oscar. The screenplay is rather flawled at times, but the film holds itself to a fine ending, although the relationship between Tim...
