I can add nothing to this discussion save another enthusiastic vote for Walter Huston. One of the finest screen performances of any era, and head-and-shoulders above most from this one.

Finally, one I can vote for.

As is becoming the obvious trope by now, I haven't seen Berkeley Square. Still, there aren't many performances from this era that I'd vote for over Muni's in I Am a Fugitive...; he gets one of the most enthusiastic votes I'll cast in this category.

Voted for Amy Ryan. One of my favorite supporting-actress performances of the whole decade. Blanchett does extraordinary work; unfortunately, she does it in a film that either went over my head or was just too damn weird. Either way, I don't feel quite right talking about I'm Not There as a movie, ...

I don't hate Little Miss Sunshine as a movie (as a Best Picture nominee, certainly, though I would've been thrilled with a supporting-actor nod for Steve Carell), but even by "cute little kid in well-liked movie" standards, Abigail Breslin does nothing for me. When it comes to supporting ...

As often, I find myself with little to add to this discussion that hasn't already been said. I'll echo the ideas that Joan Allen and Lisa Kudrow were a lot better than any of the nominees, Blethyn was pretty terrible, and Griffiths was lead. Dench was very good in her limited screen time; in fact, ...

This is the fourth consecutive year in which the Academy displayed some of the best taste in its history when it came to picking a winner in this category. Dianne Wiest won there, and she'll win here -- rightly so.

Prizzi's Honor has always struck me as kind of a weird movie; it's always played for me less as a true comedy and more as a drama with a strong undercurrent of none-more-black humor, like the comedic moments on The Sopranos . It "works" for me, but I'm not sure I "get it" on the...

Like most, I see Christine Lahti as the runner-up. Unlike most, I think she's a wholly worthy one. I'd love to see her full performance -- the one that was supposedly so great that Goldie Hawn had the movie cut to ribbons to downsize it. But even in its heavily-edited form, Lahti's work is outstand...

I'm surprised to see so many questions regarding Glenn Close's nomination for such a wonderful performance in such a popular (even moreso at the time) movie. Mary Kay Place's snub for the same film definitely raises my eyebrows, but Close's nomination is as well-deserved as any in this category. I'...

Now that I've tracked down some of the supporting actress performances cited in that poll thread, I'll throw this together. It didn't change my lineup much, but I did change my vote... from one performance I'd already seen to another. Acting nominees only, for now... Best Leading Actor [/u] • Marlo...

Four excellent-to-great performances (including Lange, who deserves dismissal from this race only because her "supporting" status is highly dubious) with no one really standing head-and-shoulders apart from the others... and Teri Garr, who's very good with what she has in the all-around w...

Steenburgen is as worthy a winner as any this category has ever produced. Simply put, she delivers a great performance in a great movie, which is more than enough to merit a win in my book. But I'm of the opinion that Raging Bull is the greatest film of the '80s and one of the greatest of all time ...

I voted for Stapleton, for a much more enthusiastic version of the reasons Italiano has already cited. I admire Interiors as a change-of-pace for Woody Allen; if he's trying too hard to ape Bergman and "betraying" the comedic sensibilities that made him so popular in the first place, he's...

A vote for Redgrave is one of the biggest no-brainers for me in this category's history. Dillon is very good in a movie that I a bsolutely adore (and the movie for which Richard Dreyfuss should have gotten his Best Actor nomination and win), but Redgrave's performance in Julia is one of the best ev...
