I am also surprised by Avatar's 9.
To put Avatar's tally in perspective LOTR The Return of the King was able to pick up 11 nominations (also without an acting nominations).

FILM UNVEILS THE EVIL SIDE OF US ALL Review by Katherine Monk, The Vancouver Sun Rating: Four stars out of five. Michael Haneke is one of those rare directors who can mess with your head – and make you love it. It’s a cruel gift, really, because you never leave a Haneke movie feeling all that great...

...catching up on a few this weekend+... The Messenger 7.5/10 I am amazed everytime I see Samantha Morton. And she is the biggest standout in this. The uncut scene in the kitchen between her and Ben Foster is hypnotizing! Why is she not a lock for a nomination?! An Education 7.5/10 A Serious Man 8....

Last book, Una Vita by Italo Svevo. Awful translation by Archibald Colquhoum. Svevo has a wonderful style but it took me months to get through this - many times putting it away. Current book, Two For The Dough by Janet Evanovich. Second in her amusing Stephanie Plum series. VERY disappointed to see...

Crazy Heart
7/10

I would prefer Colin Firth to get the Oscar, but I certainly will not gripe about Bridges winning.

24 hours, 4 films Nine 6/10 Not the trainwreck that I was expecting. I had left it on my list for BP and now I think that it will survive through to Oscar morning. District 9 7.5/10 Put this off for as long as possible. Impressive. The Fantastic Mr. Fox 7.5/10 The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus 7/...

A Single Man 8/10 Beautiful subtle performance by Firth. Really impressed with Julianne Moore as well. Looks fantastic, of course. Nice to see Don Bachardy, Isherwood's partner, (very briefly) in the scene when George arrives at the College, saying, Hello Don. If it is available I recommend Chris A...

Invictus
6.5/10

Am not a fan of Eastwood but was truly expecting something good.
Don't see why Damon is getting any attenion for this. Other than Freeman I think that every other possible nomination is fading away.
