Has Gomorra come out in America? Because I could see it pulling a City of God and garnering some surprise nods next year. City Of god is a masterpiece, Gamorra is not. I was not expecting it to be on the shortlist. It plays well with the critics but not with the general public - like Four Months Th...

Stalag 17 (Billy Wilder) 10/10 --Another film that I hadn't seen in a long time. Did not see this until a year or so ago, and I do not see how it missed out on a BP nomination. Perhaps it was overshadowed by From Here to Eternity. William Pierson is perfect as Marko The Mailman; "At ease! At e...

The only one I have not seen is RGM. I have liked the rest and don't think that they have been overpraised. Guess I will not vote just now.

Glad I'm not alone. Are you a fan of To in general? I agree that the cinematography was tremendous- or was it the loving digital intermediate? I can't tell anymore. All I know is, I hope I can make time to see this again before it departs from my neighborhood theatre. Also, it's way better than Slu...

I saw this in Sept and agree with your rating. I have thought about it a lot and hope that it shows up somewhere. The cinematography was it's best feature.

Milk (Gus Van Sant, 2008) 6/10 ...Penn is superb and Josh Brolin also very good. I don't see why Emile Hirsch and particularly James Franco are being talked about in terms of awards consideration. I have to agree about Hirsch. His performance is actually a little embarrassing - it is what Penn's' c...

And I'm quite the opposite. I've seen Rourke in Wrestler and the trailer for JCVD looks awful. I'm sure anything more than mediocre would be a surprise for him. ...JCVD looks to be very different--a meta-narrative that has the action of Jean-Claude's previous films combined with a deeper examinatio...

I was quite impressed with his perfomance actually. Playing himself, without the martial arts storyline, he showed genuine emotion. Don't dismiss the preformance without having seen the film.

Slumdog Millionaire 9/10
Felt genuinely moved by this. It was not what I was expecting - right from the first scenes.

Frost/Nixon 7/10
Been a long time since I actually watched, let alone liked, a Ron Howard film. Not really a talented director, but the film worked and moved well.

Although I know this is a 2007, I can't imagine seeing many performances this year or that better than Anamaria Marinca. ...but his skill with actors is outstanding and his screenplay only errs with the almost needlessly protracted family dinner which a Romanian friend of mine has attested is stunn...

It really is unfortunate that Let The Right One In was released before the critics top ten lists came out. It could have had a decent marketing push as a result.

I can't get all the fuss about this movie. Il Divo is much better IMO.

Thank you! I continue to be baffled by how much attention it is getting in the precursors! It does not compare to Il Divo.

Frozen River 6/10 Just caught this before it left town forever. It took me half the film to remember that it was 21 Grams that I remembered Melissa Leo from. She is equally good here. This seemed to me to be very much a Canadian film - don't know where it was filmed. And as a result I felt like I h...
